Memento

Image
Memento Objective: To create a memory using three materials Artist Statement: When I was ten, my Oma took my brother, my cousins, and myself to the Cornell Glass Museum. Once there, we all ran off to explore but I found myself still with my Oma. We began talking and somehow got on the topic of her living through the Holocaust. This was the only time in my life that she has ever even mentioned it. The memento I created encompasses my Oma, as well as the Glass Museum. I wanted to create something that embodied my Oma, her kindness, yet her strict and hard exterior, as well as the Holocaust. My final result was a piece of resin, resembling glass, that is filled with flower petals and ash, resembling my Oma and the horrible atrocities that she lived through.  Inspo Images: murielguepingallery.com http://anthonyrousseljewellery.tumblr.com/post/100984160222 martinazua.com

Relief Map

Image
Relief Map Objective: To create a conceptual map that explores a place or thing Artist Statement: When exploring ideas for a relief map, I had a hard time coming up with something that I could map. I couldn't think of any places of importance to me that were worthy of a relief map. After a few days of thought, I came across an article on climate change that had a chart showing the average temperature change over the last fifty years. The colors in it sparked inspiration in me: a map that represents climate change. I chose materials that were organic in nature, as well as colors that were directly representative of climate change. Red for heat, blue for water. My goal was to create a piece that gave a sense of the two extremes of climate change while also simulating the idea that often, the population of people here on Earth put it in little boxes and shove it in the corner, ignoring it.  Inspo: howardhersch.com adrianecolburn.com https://www.behance.n

3d to 2d

Image
Throughout the semester, I have reflected on who I am as an artist and how much I have grown since I started. With that being said, there has been many trials and tribulations as well as failures and successes. For my 3d to 2d image, I wanted to create something that reflected on all of the projects I made this semester, the good, the bad, the successful and the failures. I decided to create a montage of all my projects in order to create a new work. Within this piece, if one looks carefully, they can see everything I have made this semester, in a new way. Enjoy.

Masked Identity

Image
Masked Identity Project Objective: To create a mask that explores one's identity Artist Statement: Identity is something that is rooted within all individuals. It is something everyone is forced to deal with and determine within themselves. When creating this mask, I thought about man's identity as a whole. Where did man originate from? Where was man before now? The one thing that kept coming back to my mind was nature. This is something that is the core of our being. No matter what happens in life, we can always turn back to nature. It's where we came from. I chose to create a mask that exhibited man within nature, but also where man is today. I wanted to show that while man is rooted in nature, we now have a dependence on technology. As much as one would love to be back within their natural state, we cannot escape the impending doom of the phone in our hands, the computer in our lap...
